ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS FOR RICE STRAW MUSHROOM CULTIVATION

Environmental conditions for better Rice Straw Mushroom cultivation :

 Rice straw mushroom cultivation is the easiest and cheapest mushroom cultivation . It can be practised by farmers having small land , it can be cultivated both indoor and outdoor . The indoor method needs more monetary input than that of outdoor mushroom cultivation , but indoor method will provide stable return .

There are several important things that you need to know before you go for cultivating Mushrooms

TEMPERATURE:

 Mushroom cultivation is sensitive to temperature and humidity , the temperature for cultivation of mushrooms should be :-

During growth of mycelium :-

Optimum =35-37°c

Range= 15-40ଂc

During fruiting:-

Optimum=28-30°c

Range=25-30°c

HUMIDITY:

Humidity being the most crucial factor in Mushroom cultivation regulates the growth and yield of mushroom .

During Mycelium growth :-

Range=50-70 %

Optimum=60-65%

During fruiting:-

Range=80-100%

Optimum=90-95%

pH:-

Rice straw mushroom grows well in slightly acedic to neutral pH.

During Mycelium growth:-

Range:-  6.5-6.7

Optimum:- 6.5

During fruiting:-

Range:- 6.5-6.7

Optimum:- 6.5

SUNLIGHT/LIGHT :

100-200lux light will be enough for Mushroom cultivation .

i.e. the quantity of light where you can read a book etc .

The bedding material is also as important as the environmental conditions

The bedding material should be well sterilized otherwise it will lead to development of certain weeds and diseases .

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER :

1.  Avoid growing of mushroom at or above 70% moisture content , otherwise it will lead to weed growth , weeds like inky pod will grow in high moisture .

2. There shouldn't be direct sunlight on the mushroom cultivation bed .

3.  To maintain the temperature and humidity during fruiting stage there should be frequent spraying of water .

4. In summer season you can also spray water during Mycelium growth , if needed .

5.  The droplet size of water should be less so that it doesn't damage the mycelial growth .

6.  Use clean water .

7.  If any contamination found you can go for a spray of 1% bleaching powder ( cheapest method ).

8. In case of indoor cultivation if the polythene that you covered the bed gets sweated than remove it for few minutes and place it again on it's place .

9. Don't over water the bed.

10 . Use ventilators incase of indoor cultivation .

11. If weed growth found remove the weed from bed manually and take necessary steps accordingly .

12. Temperature regulation should be good so that it can give you a good yield .

13. Before inoculation of spawn in bed sterilize your hands properly or use gloves to avoid contamination .

14. Avoid using of old straw for cultivation .

15.  Use well sterilized rice straw for bed preparation .
